Role Summary

We’re seeking a Senior Technical Artist (Unity) to bridge the gap between art and technology, ensuring visually stunning and optimized game assets. You will be responsible for developing and implementing technical solutions that enhance the art pipeline, improve workflow efficiency, and push visual fidelity while maintaining performance. This role is perfect for an experienced technical artist passionate about solving complex problems, optimizing assets, and enabling artists and developers to create breathtaking experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize 3D and 2D assets for performance without compromising visual quality.
  • Develop and maintain tools, scripts, and shaders to improve artist workflow in Unity.
  • Implement and refine VFX, lighting, and rendering techniques for high-quality visuals.
  • Collaborate with artists and engineers to ensure seamless integration of assets into Unity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks related to art assets, shaders, and rendering.
  • Establish best practices for asset creation, compression, and optimization for mobile and PC.
  • Support the development of procedural generation tools to streamline asset production.
  • Research and implement new technologies to enhance visual quality and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in game development.
  • Expertise in Unity, including Shader Graph, VFX Graph, and rendering pipelines (URP/HDRP).
  • Strong proficiency in Python, C#, or MEL for tool development and automation.
  • Experience optimizing assets for performance on multiple platforms, including mobile.
  • Deep understanding of real-time rendering, lighting, and shading techniques.
  • Proficiency in 3D software (Blender, Maya, or Houdini) for asset manipulation and pipeline integration.
  • Knowledge of rigging, skinning, and animation workflows is a plus.

Work Environment

We are a fully remote studio seeking talent across the United States. Our core work hours align with 9 AM – 5 PM local time, Monday through Friday. At this time, we are unable to hire international candidates.

Compensation

Muddy Robot Games offers equity-based compensation. As a contractor, you will receive equity shares in the company in place of a traditional salary. Your ownership stake reflects the value of your contributions, positioning you as a stakeholder in our journey. The value of your equity may fluctuate based on market conditions and company growth.
